Online Presence Audit

A deeper review when you need to understand the whole picture before deciding what to change.

I review the parts of your online presence that affect whether local customers can find you, trust what they see and take the next step.

You receive prioritised findings, a practical action plan and a short call or meeting to talk through the results.

When an audit is useful

An Online Presence Audit is useful when you know something is not working as well as it should, but the cause is not obvious.

You may already have a website, Google Business Profile and reviews in place, but still be unsure why enquiries are low or why competitors seem easier to find.

It can also help before spending money on a new website, advertising or other changes to your online presence.

The purpose is to understand the current position first, then decide what is actually worth changing.

What I review

Website

I look at the main pages customers are likely to use, including:

  • Clarity of the services or products offered
  • Important business information
  • Contact and enquiry routes
  • Calls to action
  • Mobile usability
  • Obvious usability or technical problems
  • Whether the website supports the services and locations the business wants customers to find

Google Business Profile

I review the public profile and how well it represents the business, including:

  • Business information
  • Categories
  • Services
  • Photos and other profile content
  • Reviews
  • Contact routes
  • Obvious gaps or inconsistencies

Local visibility

Where relevant, I look at how the business appears when local customers search for its services and how easy it is to find useful and consistent information about the business.

This can include local search results, business listings and other public information.

Reviews and trust

I look at the information a potential customer may use when deciding whether to contact the business, including:

  • Number and quality of reviews
  • How recent the reviews are
  • Whether reviews are being answered
  • Consistency between the website, Google Business Profile and other public information

Competitors

I look at a small number of relevant local competitors to understand what customers see when comparing businesses.

The purpose is not to copy competitors. It is to identify useful differences, obvious weaknesses and opportunities the business may be missing.

Enquiry route

I check how easy it is for someone to move from finding the business to actually making contact.

  • Phone
  • Contact forms
  • Email
  • WhatsApp
  • Booking options
  • Other important calls to action

What you receive

After the review, you receive a PDF report explaining what I found.

This includes:

  • The main issues worth addressing
  • What appears to be working well
  • Priorities rather than a long list of minor faults
  • Recommended next steps
  • A practical action plan

We then have a short call or meeting to talk through the findings and answer questions about the report.

The aim is to give you something practical and understandable rather than a report full of scores, technical language and unnecessary detail.

What the audit does not include

An Online Presence Audit is a review and action plan.

It does not normally include carrying out the recommended changes.

If you already know that several connected areas need work and want the improvements carried out as part of the service, Foundation – Get Found may be the better starting point.

If the main issue is clearly your Google Business Profile or website, a more focused service may also be more suitable.

How the audit works

1

Tell me about the business

You tell me what the business does, the areas it serves and anything you are particularly concerned about.

2

I review the online presence

I work through the relevant public information and look at how the different parts work together.

3

You receive the report

I provide a PDF report containing the main findings, priorities and recommended actions.

4

We talk through the findings

We have a short call or meeting to go through the report, answer questions and make sure the next steps are clear.

5

Decide what happens next

You can carry out the actions yourself, pass the report to another provider or ask Ember Harbour to help with some or all of the recommended work.

Not sure whether you need the free online check or a full audit?

The free online check is a short first look at what customers can currently find about the business online. I call this a Local Visibility Snapshot.

It is intended to highlight obvious issues and provide useful next steps.

The Online Presence Audit is a much deeper review. It looks at several parts of the business’s online presence together and provides a prioritised action plan.
